Boots Online Doctor has launched a new private insomnia treatment service aimed at adults with chronic sleep problems.
The service offers advice, personalised treatment plans and sleep hygiene guidance as well as prescription medicines “if appropriate” after a questionnaire is completed. the multiple said.
The company said that although patients with sleep disturbances lasting three months or longer should see their GP, they can “alternatively” use its online service to access advice or treatment.
Medication options include daridorexant 50mg tablets (£85 for 30 tablets) and melatonin modified release 2mg tablets (£40 for 30 tablets). Prescriptions are issued on the basis of a “joint decision” being taken between patients and Boots Online Doctor clinicians, said the chain.
P3pharmacy has approached Boots to learn whether a consultation fee is charged for using the service.
Dr Clare Rooms, a GP and insomnia clinical lead at Boots Online Doctor, commented: “While occasional disrupted sleep over the festive period is normal, it’s important to look out for signs of longer-term sleep difficulties.
“These include persistent sleep issues beyond a couple of weeks, tiredness affecting daily function, symptoms that don’t improve despite sleep hygiene measures, or developing anxiety around bedtime.
“In the long-term, insomnia affects more than your sleep – it can affect your health, relationships and even your career. It’s important not to ignore persistent sleep difficulties as effective support is available.”
